Ange Postecoglou, nommé mardi pour succéder à Nuno Espírito Santo, a vu son équipe s’incliner 3-0 à Arsenal, butés par Martín Zubimendi (deux fois) et Viktor Gyökeres. Forest a peu menacé et Arsenal a répondu avec aisance à sa défaite 1-0 à Liverpool avant la trêve internationale.

Interrogé sur le temps nécessaire pour marquer son empreinte, Postecoglou a rejeté l’idée d’un long chantier : “It won’t be months, it won’t be weeks … it will be Wednesday,” a-t-il déclaré. Il a insisté sur la nécessité d’agir vite : “I cannot afford to waste time. This is not a project. This football club had a strong season last year, they need to be stronger this year and my job is to get us to where I want us as quickly as possible.

Le technicien a ajouté : “On Wednesday, we will start seeing principles being embedded. It won’t take long and I will not let it take long. I will make sure we turn it around because we have an unbelievable opportunity to make an impact this season and I am not going to let that slip.” Ces propos traduisent l’urgence affichée par le club pour reprendre le cours des résultats après le revers inaugurale.

Préparations, effectif et calendrier : entraînements limités avant Swansea et match à Burnley

Postecoglou a expliqué que la trêve internationale avait compliqué la préparation du déplacement à Arsenal : il n’a rassemblé tous ses joueurs que pour une seule séance, le vendredi précédent. Pour ne pas brusquer les nombreux nouveaux arrivants au club, il a choisi de limiter les changements et de conserver la plupart des titulaires de son prédécesseur.

Une modification a toutefois été imposée : l’ailier Ola Aina a été écarté en raison d’une blessure aux ischio‑jambiers contractée avec la sélection nigériane. Selon Postecoglou, “It’s been a very disruptive week for the players. Seven days ago, their world was totally different to what it was today. You can’t accept defeat and you’ve got to be disappointed by it but the context of what the week has been like … I can’t fault the players in terms of what they were trying to do.”

Le coach a ajouté : “I didn’t want to make too many changes to the lineup because I think it would have been unfair both on the existing players but also on the new players to be thrown into such a difficult game. But we can put a line through that now. We kind of understand that’s the week and that’s the first week … the first phase that we can put to bed and now start looking ahead.”

En perspective immédiate, Nottingham Forest disputera la rencontre de Carabao Cup à Swansea mercredi, avant de se déplacer à Burnley pour son prochain match de Premier League samedi. Postecoglou a précisé le plan de la semaine : “We’ve got a game Wednesday. We’ve got two sessions before that. That’s gold for us. We’ve got another couple of sessions before the next Premier League game. So whatever’s happened this week and how disruptive it’s been, we can put a line through it and start looking ahead.”
